BlueFeather!
Blue was saved at Lancaster auction. For our first wedding anniversary, we decided to save a horse. After walking through the pens and looking at all the horses ready for auction, I spotted a depressed, skinny pony that had all but given up. Head hung to the ground in defeat. I knew he needed to come home. When he was brought into the auction ring, the attendants had a little girl on him. One man yanked back a front leg while a girl repeatedly smacked Blue with a rope. All to show that he would lay down for a rider to mount and dismount. His price kept climbing higher and higher and I didn't know my wonderful husband was behind me still bidding 💖 We brought Blue home that night. He has helped me overcome my own fears, and is an absolute camera ham.
BlueFeather is now 40 years young!!!
This was BlueFeather the night of the auction. July 1 2013
BlueFeather. The soul that started it all!!!
Wizard is a Welsh stallion that came to us while we were located in Southern California. He was shown in cart classes extensively but at the age of 23 he was showing signs of discomfort while in the show ring. His hooves bruise easily so he wears hoofboots while out on walks. Whizzy also has some arthritis in his right hip and spine. He does still love playing and going on his walks. Wizard is now 30 years old!!
He does require soaked pellets and senior feed, and boy does he love his meals!
Wizard was laid to rest last Summer 2023 due to severe spinal and hip arthritis
Blueberry Shortcake is an ex pony ride pony from Rawhide ponies in El Monte California. She came to us when the owner of the business passed away and all the ponies needed new homes. Blueberry has some severe panic issues when it comes to long handles tools like rakes, shovels, etc. She also has random panic attacks. It took nearly a year to be able to groom her and trim her hooves without her having a meltdown. Blueberry is now approximately 22 years young and absolutely loves being groomed now. She does still have episodes of panic, but they are nothing like previous years.
Miss Blueberry Shortcake was laid to rest in 2023 due to arthritis and laminitis
Smokey is a miniature stallion that came to us from a hoarding situation in Santa Barbara California. He was being kept in a dog kennel, his halter was matted to his tiny head and had to be cut off. Smokey very much loves every other horse and animal he meets. We trained him to pull a cart and he absolutely loves getting out and showing off his tiny little moves!! Little Smokey is approximately 20 years old.
Dilly Pickle the Donkey! What can we say about Dilly that isn't silly? She was born with us, her mother was a BLM burro from the Centennial Herd in China Lake California. Her mother Violet needed a quieter and slower paced home so now lives with a great friend of ours and is thriving.
Dilly is the Queen of shenanigans! From turning on faucets, dragging hoses and feed buckets, running amuck, and every bit of naughtiness she can get into.
Dilly has been an independent little pickle since the moment she came into this world and we will never take that from her.
Sundance is an approximately 18 year old Peruvian Paso gelding. Sunny came to BlueFeather from our good friends at The Medicine Horse Project in Imlay Nevada. Sunny just didn't seem happy with the horsey friends he had there. Chris knew my love and understanding of Peruvians and their quirky personalities so reached out to us ❤️ Sunny has been thriving and totally loves his walks and grooming time. He is the Fabio of the Sanctuary
Sunny was laid to rest this Winter 2024 due to progressing DSLD
Biblia LF aka Bibsy, is a Peruvian Paso mare and is 27 years young! Bibsy had been leased out for a while by her owner. Her amazing owner caught wind that Bibsy wasn't exactly being cared for very well so took her back and began getting weight back on her. Bibsys owner was then moving and would not have the time nor the finances to continue her care. So Bibsy came to retire with us here at BlueFeather. She can be a little skittish and hard to catch at times, but she adores her luxurious mane to be brushed and going on walks with Sundance.
Bibsy crossed Rainbow Bridge when it became apparent that her arthritis could no longer be controlled with medications and other comfort measures.
Stormy is a 26 year old pony that came to us in 2021 from Auburn California. His incredible and Amazing owners were forced to move across the country after the start of the pandemic. Stormy is completely blind on his left side and sees shadows on the right, but don't let that fool you! He knows right where you are. He follows whistles and the sound of my voice. His best buddy is Smokey and he seems to really enjoy his afternoon walks.
Stormy crossed Rainbow Bridge this Winter 2024 when both of his eyes ulcerated due to uvitis. He was not handling the total loss of vision well so we opted to let him fly free.
Rue is a three year old BLM mustang that came to us through the BLMs online auction. I had kept stopping on her picture during the auction, she had such a sad photo posted. She was scraggly, thin, super butt high and long legged. She was of course a yearling in the photos. On the last day of auction she still had zero bids so I thru in a bid of $25 and won her. When we arrived to pick her up, she stood at about 14.3 and looked so much better than her pictures! She was a little bit of a challenge at first. That is until she discovered the wither scratch. Now she follows me around asking for love and wanting to give loads of kisses. Rue now stands about 15.2 and still growing.
She is from the Maverick-Medicine HMA here in Nevada. And we absolutely love her! She is a wonderful addition to our future therapy program .
Prim is a three year old mustang also from the BLMs online auction. I had put in a bid the first day of the auction for $25. I was outbid so went to $40 and was outbid again. Well darn, I wasn't going to bid any higher as it seemed someone really wanted her. A few days after the auction ended I received an email with a second chance offer of $35 since her winning bidder passed on her. Heck yes I'll pay and bring her home with Rue!
Prim is from the Eagle HMA here in Nevada. She was a tad aggressive/defensive at first and would strike out. I really can't blame, her with who know what she had been been through during roundup and at the holding facility. She slowly came around and now enjoys grooming time and her leg stretches. She's still a bit skittish but that's ok.
